Rec Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the age range and structure for this recreational program?

    This program is open to players from 3rd Grade through 8th Grade. Teams play in the Soccer 5 recreational league, focusing on participation, fun, and teamwork.
  • When does the season run?

    Players can register for the Fall season (games start the 2nd or 3rd week of September) or the Spring season (games usually start in April), or both.
  • What is the time commitment for practices?

    Your volunteer coach will communicate the practice schedule and location. Teams have two practices a week, usually 90 minutes each. It will be Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, depending on the availability of fields and schedule preferences of the coach.
  • Where are the games played?

    Home games are at Milwaukie and Oak Grove elementary schools as well as Alder Creek Middle School and Sabin Schellenberg. Away games are scattered throughout North Clackamas. You can see a list of clubs and fields here.
  • Why doesn't NCSC offer a recreational program for high school players (9th grade and up)?

    While we previously offered a recreational program for high school age groups, we were unable to consistently register enough players to form viable teams. We currently encourage these players to explore the NCA competitive program or other options in the area. Nothing prevents us from fielding a high school coed team if a big enough group of players assembles to request a team.
  • How big is the field? How many players? How long are the halves?

    Our league follows the Standards of Play designed by US Soccer:
    * 3rd-4th Grade: 7 vs. 7, 25 minute halves, Size 4 Ball
    * 5th-6th Grade: 9 vs. 9, 30 minute halves, Size 4 Ball
    * 7th-8th Grade: 11 vs. 11, 35 minute halves, Size 5 Ball
  • What should my player wear?

    Players must wear shin guards completely covered by long socks, and black shorts. While soccer cleats are recommended, turf shoes or regular tennis shoes may also be worn. The home team wears their 'dark' jerseys; the away team wears their 'light' jerseys.
  • Are specific jersey numbers required?

    No, recreational soccer does not require numbers but players are encouraged to add numbers to their shirts when they order them. Coordinate with your team on PlayMetrics to avoid duplicate jersey numbers. If your player has the same number as another player, that's okay.
  • Are players allowed to wear jewelry, glasses, or casts?

    NO jewelry of any kind is allowed—this includes all earrings, watches, and metal items. Taping jewelry is strictly prohibited. If a player cannot remove a piercing, they will be asked to leave the field. Prescription glasses are allowed, though sports goggles are encouraged for safety. Padded casts may be worn if approved by the referee.
  • What else should my player bring?

    Please ensure your player brings plenty of water. A size 4 ball (3rd to 6th grade) or size 5 ball (7th and 8th grade) will be used during practices and games.
  • How will I communicate with the team?

    All communication is handled through PlayMetrics. You can register with a link from the Resources menu. Expect all updates, schedules, and alerts to come through that platform.
  • How can I help the team?

    As a volunteer-run club, help is always appreciated! Reach out to your coach to offer support by coordinating snacks, bringing a canopy, or assisting with equipment setup.
  • How can I help the club?

    NCSC is always looking for volunteers and staff to help keep our programs running smoothly year after year. Contact volunteers@ncsoccerclub.com for more information.
  • Where should spectators sit during games?

    ALL spectators must sit on the sideline OPPOSITE the teams. Coaches and players will remain on their own half of the side they are on.
  • Are scholarships and multi-child discounts available?

    Yes!
    * Scholarships: Inquire by emailing us at scholarships@ncsoccerclub.com.
    * Multi-Child Discount: A discount is applied to the recreational fee for the 2nd, 3rd, and subsequent children registered in the program.
  • What is the refund policy?

    Once registration is accepted and payment is processed, $20.00 is non-refundable. Once games begin for the season, the entire registration fee becomes non-refundable. All refunds are at the discretion of the NCSC board.
  • Can I bring my dog to games?

    Well-behaved pets are welcome at our home fields, but please check the policies of away venues here.
  • What should I do about a referee call I disagree with?

    Please refer to our code of conduct and never yell at the referees. If you have a question or concern regarding a referee, talk to your coach. If you are still unsatisfied, please reach out directly to our Referee Coordinator at assignor@ncsoccerclub.com.
